The randomly generated map has endless replay value so players can experience a different world each game. The characters are quirky and the scenery is beautifully creepy. ![]() If Tim Burton were to create a pop-up book, “Don’t Starve” would surely be the result. “Don’t Starve” is memorable in its artistic style. I was unable to finish the adventure because I was not quite skilled enough to survive the increasingly difficult settings. If you are lucky enough to live on, you may stumble upon the adventure story arc of the game, which will teleport you to another world so that you can escape this solitary place. While I survived my first winter by the hairs of my newly grown beard, I would not see another. The brutal cold proved to be the biggest enemy, causing me to stop every few minutes to light a fire or gather enough wool to make a hat. I was blissfully unaware of how quickly the seasons changed, and it was a struggle through the first winter. Otherwise it is going to be a longer winter. When the season changes, you better have stocked up on food. Along the way you’ll find wood, twigs, grass, flowers, stones and other resources needed for the crafting aspect of the game, which reminds me of the “Minecraft” system.Īfter scavenging and exploring for a few days, making a home base is advisable. ![]() The map of each game is randomly generated, and it hides tricks around every corner that will leave you dead or hungry.Īs you get hungrier and hungrier, the more you move around the map, searching – in vain, might I add – for a sustainable food source. There are numerous ways to perish in this world hunger, wolves, lightning, poison, frogs, fire and insanity are only a handful of the dangers that you’ll face day to day. “Don’t Starve” is a survival game with a permanent death system, meaning that when you (inevitably) die it’s time to start all over again. At the start of the game, darkness fades out and an ominous figure looms over you and gives the only advice you’ll hear, “You’d better find something to eat before night comes!” ![]() “Don’t Starve” is not only the title of Klei Entertainment’s newest game, it is also the only objective of the game. ![]()
